ECU Remapping and Chip Tuning FAQs

Why choose ProTune for mobile remapping?

ProTune ECU Remapping not only have over 22 years experience in electronic and mechanical car tuning and remapping, we also offer many supporting services and all of our ProTune ECU Remapping Agents have been selected on their good reputation and credentials to maintain the level of service we provide to you.

Will remapping invalidate my vehicle's warranty?

There are several ways to upload modified software to a vehicles ECU however due to investment from ProTune ECU Remapping in the latest tuning software and hardware we're able to re-program 99% of the vehicles we cover via the vehicles OBD port (On Board Diagnostics). As such, ProTune ECU Remapping leave no physical evidence of work behind, which is completely undetectable.

All diagnostics/codes that dealers may read will remain exactly the same. We say this with confidence as we rigorously test all remapped files prior to being uploaded to your vehicle. To support this, we also provide a software warranty.

In the case of some pre-2000 vehicles it may be required that the ECU will need to be removed and reprogrammed directly. If this is the case, we will inform you before hand.

Can the process be reversed?

Yes. If you need your vehicle to be returned to its original settings perhaps when your thinking about selling it, we can reverse the process. In most cases the enhanced performance may support the sale of your vehicle. Should you lose your modified software due to dealer actions or parts failure, please get in touch, we'll be happy to re-install the map onto your vehicle, for as long as you own the vehicle.

Should I tell my insurance company?

This is your choice. Whilst the upgrade is undetectable, we are a responsible company and advise all of our customers to notify their insurance company. Many insurance companies don't penalise for upgrades of this nature, particularly if you received an ECU remap for increased fuel economy. Adrian Flux is one insurance company that do not penalise.

Will my fuel consumption increase after remapping?

No, quite the opposite. If you choose a performance tune for your vehicle and continue to drive the car in the same style as you did before the ECU Remap, then your fuel consumption will most likely improve. If you choose to have have a track map and drive under the conditions which a track map is intended, you're likely to find a slightly reduced mpg figure. Economy tuning can have up to 20% improvement on fuel consumption, providing huge cost savings.

Will remapping increase engine wear?

Not with ProTune ECU Remapping. Some engines can be over tuned, "stressing" the engine, transmission, cooling systems, etc. and reduce the life span and reliability of the car. This is why it's important to choose the right company to complete your ECU Remapping. We take great time and care to ensure all modifications have no detrimental effect on your vehicle. In many cases the economy tune actually helps to extend the life of components such as the clutch and gearbox by making the delivery of the power far less aggressive and smoothing the overall drive of the vehicle.

Are plug 'n' play tuning box's or pre-modified files on the internet any good?

There are a number of basic power upgrades available in the plug 'n' play format and downloads from the internet. Whilst some of these items can offer slight increase in power, they operate merely adjusting a specified signal within the ECU by a set tolerance, in most cases the fuel pressure, or by signalling to the ECU that the engine is running cold. It's impossible to compare these inferior upgrades with a full custom remap based upon your original software which measures and adjusts hundreds of signals and data files within the ECU.We advise that these generic files and unsupported devices for sale on the web should be avoided at all cost. We've seen too many customers come to us after a bad experience - and there was no one else to turn to either. We're always happy to advise on your tuning needs.
